About StateStride

StateStride is a free, independent checklist that puts Texas vehicle registration and driver license transfer in the order the County Tax Office and DPS actually expect. It exists to make a confusing government process easier to finish in one visit.

Why this exists

I moved to Texas and had to make it official: plates, insurance, residency proofs, then a driver license. The steps were split across county tax offices, DPS, TxDMV, TDI, and a pile of PDFs. Each office assumed you already knew what the last office needed. I got the order wrong, printed the wrong things, and learned the hard way that a missed form means a second trip.

StateStride is the guide I wished I had. Same official forms, same statutes, one sequence — so you can walk into the counter with the right packet instead of reconstructing the process from five government websites.

What StateStride is

An independent civic checklist for adults relocating to Texas. You answer a few path questions (vehicle, title, license), confirm your Texas county, and get a step-by-step roadmap: two residency proofs when you still need a license, insurance and emissions where they apply, TxDMV Form 130-U and county fees, then DPS Form DL-14A and a license appointment.

What StateStride is not

StateStride is not DPS, TxDMV, TDI, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, or any County Tax Assessor-Collector. It is not legal, tax, or clerk advice. Printable packets are organizational aids, not official government forms. County clerks and DPS examiners make the final call.

Free, and not a sales funnel

Official state forms are free from the agencies that publish them. StateStride does not charge for those documents. We do not sell electricity, insurance, or appointments. Checklist links go to official Texas resources: DPS, TxDMV, TDI, and Power to Choose.

Your answers stay on your device

There are no user accounts. Checklist answers and county (and city, if you typed one) stay in your browser. A ZIP is used only to look up your county and is not saved. Packets are generated on your device. StateStride does not store Social Security numbers, driver license numbers, or VINs. See the Privacy Policy for the full list.

Corrections

A rejected document, a stale fee, or a 404 on an official form should get fixed. Use Report a bug or rule update. Do not include Social Security numbers, driver license numbers, or VINs.
