Last updated: October 2026

StateStride is an independent, free civic checklist for Texas vehicle registration and driver license transfers. We do not operate user accounts, and we do not store direct personal identifiers on our servers.

1. What stays on your device (localStorage)

StateStride runs the relocation checklist in your browser. Checklist answers are saved in localStorage on your device. We do not maintain a user database or an API that receives those answers. Your browser may store:

  • Location: Texas county, and city if you typed a city name. A ZIP is only used in the browser to look up that county. It is not saved in localStorage. Government sites may ask for a ZIP after you leave StateStride.
  • Intake and roadmap path: whether you are transferring into Texas vs already holding Texas plates and a Texas license, whether you are registering a vehicle, owned vs financed vs leased, title transfer vs Registration Purposes Only (RPO), and whether you are transferring a driver license.
  • Vehicle path: powertrain (gas/hybrid vs battery EV) and county emissions indicators.
  • Administrative selections: selected DPS Mega Center, utility or internet provider names, proof category choices, custom proof labels (up to 100 characters), and completed-step timestamps.

Retention and deletion: This data stays in your browser until you clear site data for this domain, or use Reset Roadmap Progress. Reset Checklist Only removes checklist progress but keeps your saved county, optional city, intake answers, and inbound vs already-Texas choice. Wipe All & Restart Intake removes all StateStride keys from localStorage, including location.

2. Locally generated documents

Printable counter packets and summaries are rendered in your browser with client-side JavaScript (pdf-lib). Those files are not uploaded to, transmitted across, or stored on our servers. Official Texas forms (including TxDMV Form 130-U and DPS Form DL-14A) are downloaded from the agency that publishes them.

3. Third-party hosting and server logs

StateStride is hosted on Cloudflare. Like other cloud hosts, Cloudflare's edge servers record standard request logs for infrastructure security, DDoS mitigation, and operations. Those logs may include IP address, browser user-agent, referring URL, and timestamps. We do not operate user profiles, and we do not link those logs to a StateStride account.

4. Analytics and cookies

We use PostHog for product analytics: page views, web vitals, named funnel events (for example, starting intake, generating a guide, opening or finishing a checklist card, and downloading a packet), and session replays of visits so we can see where people get stuck. Autocapture of clicks and form values is off. Session replay records the screen but masks text in inputs. We do not send ZIP codes, county names, city names, checklist answers, or generated packets to PostHog. PostHog may infer an approximate country, region, or city from IP address (the same class of network data Cloudflare already logs). That guess is not the ZIP, county, or city from the checklist.

Events go through this site to PostHog. PostHog may store an anonymous visitor identifier in first-party storage (cookie or localStorage) so return visits are not counted twice. We do not use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, or advertising pixels, and we do not run ads. PostHog's processing is described in PostHog's Privacy Policy.

5. Third-party services and external links

Feedback and bug reporting (Tally): Report a bug or rule update opens an external form hosted by Tally (tally.so). Submissions on that page are governed by Tally's Privacy Policy. We use the content you type (for example, step, county context, and description) to fix the guide. Do not submit Social Security numbers, driver license numbers, vehicle identification numbers (VINs), or other sensitive records in a bug report.

Facility navigation (Google Maps): Office location links open Google Maps using public government facility addresses, not your residential address. Use of Google Maps is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

Texas government portals: Checklists link to official resources, including the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), and the Public Utility Commission of Texas (Power to Choose). When you leave StateStride, that destination's policies apply.

6. Children's privacy

StateStride is administrative guidance for adult Texas relocation requirements (vehicle titling, auto insurance, and adult driver licensing). We do not direct the service at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

7. Privacy inquiries

Privacy questions go through Report a bug or rule update. That form is hosted by Tally, so it is not anonymous: Tally's servers may see your IP address and device data. Tally's Privacy Policy governs the submission. Do not include Social Security numbers, driver license numbers, or VINs.
