Texas emissions counties, inspection fees, and EVs
Which Texas counties require an emissions test, the county fee caps, and the $200 EV registration fee plus the $7.50 replacement fee.
Counties that require a test
A gasoline or hybrid vehicle aged 2–24 years needs a passing OBDII test in these counties before registration. A passing result must be no older than 90 days at registration.

The fee depends on the county
The station fee is capped at $11.50 in El Paso, Travis, and Williamson, and at $18.50 in the other emissions counties. Counties without that test charge the $7.50 inspection-program replacement fee at the tax office.
Battery-electric vehicles
Battery EVs skip the inspection station in every county. At the tax office, budget the $200 EV registration fee plus the $7.50 inspection-program replacement fee. The $200 does not replace regular plates or title charges.
